Oxygen Sensor Replacement Policy
Last Updated 4 years ago

For a full explanation of the concept, usage, and oxygen sensor replacement, see latest version of the HORIZON manual

The HORIZON uses a unique system of two oxygen sensor to maintain a safe oxygen level in the breathing gas. These Galvanic sensors are subject to aging and wear and are as such to be treated as consumables requiring periodic exchanging.

To reduce the risk of both sensor failing at the same time we apply a policy to exchange every 6 months the oldest sensor. By doing so we have sensors in the unit from a different production batches but also a different history of oxygen exposure.

In Practise:

  • Mark installation date at both sensors at the start of the unit usage
  • After 6 months, replace one of both sensors and mark installation date
  • After another 6 months, replace the oldest sensor and mark installation date
  • Repeat last every 6 months.

That means that at any given time in the unit, we have one sensor not older (installed) then 6 months, the second sensor not older (installed) then 12 months.

Do’s:

Always mark the installation date on the oxygen sensor upon installation in the unit.

If a sensor fails prior to the change interval, replace immediately with a new sensor.

Only use oxygen sensors approved by the manufacturer.

Always calibrate the unit after an oxygen sensor replacement.
